Here is a rank of all the moves for Feraligatr. Waterfall and Hydro Cannon is the best move set for it.
Lets look at a ranking for all water types ranked by DO@20. It looks like the new charge move moves Feraligatr as the second best water type. This might not be so bad because the best water type is Kyogre and has much harder candy to get.
Lets look at a ranking for all pokemon sorted by DO@20. The new Feraligatr is 36th on the list. It won't be a top tier generalist, but maybe for specific types?
Water is super effective against ground, rock and fire types. So lets look at the best ground counters, the best rock counters, and the best fire counters. Feraligatr is #3 against Fire, #4 against Ground and #7 against Rock. Again, depending on your situation Feraligatr can be useful to you.
Trainer Battles
Since trainer battles have a completely different set of move stats, lets look at this seperately. Also, TDO is usually maximized for trainer battles instead of DO@20. Under Master League trainer battles, Hydro Cannon is still the best move for Feraligatr. But across water types, it is not nearly a top performer when ranking by TDO, ranked #7. There are plenty of options ahead of it like Kyogre, Gyrados, Swampert, Vaporeon and Suicune. For specific types of Fire, Ground and Rock, it is ranked #9, #8, and #8. That's not bad, but many other options to choose from here.
For Ultra league rankings by TDO Feraligatr is #37 on the list. Against, Fire (#12), Ground (#51) and Rock types (#41), it's not ranked highly either.
For Great league rankings by TDO, Feraligatr ranks #83 in the general ranking. Even against Fire types, against Ground types, and against Rock types, Feraligatr is ranked #23, #81, #62. It is just too high CP to be used for Great League Battles.
