Next Community Day: Sceptile with Frenzy Plant

Frenzy Plant is good, but is it good enough?

The next Community Day is Sceptile On March 23, 2019 from 3-6PM local time. The exclusive move for Sceptile is Frenzy Plant if you evolve Treecko.

Gyms and Raids

Here is a rank of all the moves for Sceptile. Frenzy Plant will be its best move. This puts Sceptile as the highest DO@20 grass type! and it puts Sceptile as the #14 highest DO@20 overall But this is only half of the equation and we need to look at the opponent type also. Grass is super effective against ground, rock, and water types. Against these types, Sceptile is #5 against Ground and Sceptile is #6 against rock and Sceptile tile is #6 against water.
For me, I like to have a variety of Pokemon and I might power up this one to use against these three types. But there are many better alternatives, which have been available recently. Against ground types, Mamoswine has higher DO@20. Against rock types, Breloom has higher DO@20. Against water types, quite a large number of electric types are better. If you like to power-up many of the same Pokemon, Sceptile might not fit on your team.

Trainer Battles

Since trainer battles have a completely different set of move stats, lets look at this seperately. Also, TDO is usually maximized for trainer battles instead of DO@20. Under Master League trainer battles, Frenzy Plant still looks to be Sceptile's best move. But Sceptile is #43 highest TDO in great league, Sceptile is #22 highest TDO in ultra league Sceptile is #55 highest TDO in master league.

Digging into ultra league a little more, Sceptile is #16 against ground types, Sceptile is #46 against rock types Sceptile is #7 against water types. From these numbers, I don't think I'll be using Sceptile+Frenzy Plant for any PvP battles.
