Bring on the bug, ghost and dark Pokemon!

Deoxys is a psychic type, so we should see bug, ghost and dark types dominate the DO@20 list of Deoxys counters.

  1. Mewtwo
  2. Tyranitar
  3. Metagross
  4. Weavile
  5. Dragonite
  6. Rayquaza
  7. Scizor
  8. Salamence
  9. Mismagius
  10. Gengar
We have lots of the usual top Pokemon: Mewtwo, Metagross, Dragnoite, Rayquaza, and Salamence. But filling out the other top 5 are Pokemon with super effective moves against pyschic: Tyranitar, Weavile, Scizor, Mismagius, Gengar. Use the link above to get the move sets. Uncheck "Only best move set for each Pokemon" to get all the good move sets.

Higher DPS

If you're regularly Raid in groups of 7+ like me, then you might want to go with higher DPS Pokemon to get some extra master balls. Take a look at the DO@15 list of Deoxys Counters. Even more Pokemon with super effective moves show up now, Houndoom and Pinsir are added. Metagross and Dranonite fall off the list because they have lower DPS.

Other Lists

Let's compare Pokebattler's list of Deoxys Counters with the top DO@16 against Deoxys. 4 of the top 5 are the same, but DO@16 replaces Banette with Rayquaza so don't sleep on Rayquaza. Also, consider these other Pokemon which DO@16 ranks higher than Pokebattler: Salamence (#7), Gardevoir (#10), and Shiftry (#16)

Lets look at this chart of Deoxys counters. 5 of the 6 recommended are in the top 7 of DO@15. Dragonite is much lower, but Weavile and Mismagius appear in the top 7. So try out these two new Pokemon.

What about Gamepress's raid counter guide for Deoxys? This calculator can change the gym attacker's (your) level and it looks to match DO@13 except for the level 40 recommendations

  • Level 25, DO@13. The top two Pokemon match. Weavile, Rayquaza, and Salamence complete the top 5.
  • Level 30, DO@13. Combining 25+ and 30+ into a list of 7, they all show up in the top 9 of DO@13. The two missing are the new Pokemon Weavile and Mismagius.
  • Level 35, DO@13. Alakazam makes an appearance at #8. The DO@13 list doesn't put Cacturne very high and suggests Banette (#10) and Drifblim (#11).
  • Level 40, DO@19. For level 40, Gamepress recommends Pokemon with lower DPS, but high HP. All 14 recommended Pokemon are in the top 23 of DO@19. As additional recommendations, we can look at the 9 additional Pokemon on the DO@19 list. It adds the new Pokemon: Weavile, Mismagius, Drifblim, and Shiftry. It also recommends some others from Gen 1-3: Metagross, Salamence, Gardevoir, Raikou, Entei

Pure DPS

Take a look at the DO@5 list of Deoxys Counters.

  1. Gengar
  2. Haunter
  3. Banette
  4. Mewtwo
  5. Honchkrow
  6. Weavile
  7. Sharpedo
  8. Absol
  9. Alakazam
  10. Houndoom
The list is dominated by Pokemon with super effective moves, but the team won't last long. Be sure to have a 2nd party setup or at least 12 trainers.

Weather

For different weather, here are some additional Pokemon to look at:

  • Sunny: Moltres, Typhlosion, Entei, Flareon
  • Rain: Electivire, Raikou, Zapdos, Kyogre, Luxray
  • Windy: Moltres, Latios
  • Fog: Drifblim, Banette, Alakazam, Gardevoir

Alternate move sets

The links above only show the best move set for each Pokemon, including legacy moves. However, if you don't have the legacy move or running short of TMs, you can unselect the two checkboxes: "Include Legacy Moves" and "Only best move set for each Pokemon"
