Best Pokemon vs Ho-Oh

Rock Pokemon anyone?

Ho-Oh is a flying and fire type Pokemon. Fire is weak to ground, rock and water while flying is weak to electric, ice and rock (again). How does the list of top DO@20 counters for Ho-Oh look like? Especially with the increased type effectiveness bonuses, we should see lots of rock type Pokemon.

  1. Tyranitar : Smack Down / Stone Edge
  2. Rhyperior : Smack Down / Stone Edge
  3. Golem Alola : Rock Throw / Stone Edge
  4. Regirock : Rock Throw / Stone Edge
  5. Rayquaza : Dragon Tail / Ancient Power
  6. Golem Normal : Rock Throw / Stone Edge
  7. Omastar : Rock Throw / Rock Slide
  8. Melmetal : Thunder Shock / Rock Slide
  9. Electivire : Thunder Shock / Whild Charge
  10. Lunatone : Rock Throw / Rock Slide
No surprises here, 9 of the top 10 are using rock moves. Electivire is electric and Ho-Oh is still weak to it.

Other Lists

Lets take a look at Gamepress's Ho-Oh raid counter guide. It looks very close to DO@15 list for Ho-Oh Raids. 7 of the top 8 Pokemon are the same. DO@15 adds Alolan Golem so take a second look at that one. Completing the top 10 are Rayquaza and Armaldo.

I also would like to compare with Pokebattler's default recommendations for Ho-Oh. In this case, it seems to match up with DO@20. Take a longer look at these Pokemon that DO@20 has these ranked higher

  • Rayquaza (↑ 5)
  • Zapdos (↑ 5)
  • Togekiss (↑ 5)
  • Mew (↑ 6)
  • Mewtwo (↑ 5)
If you're still looking for other Pokemon, consider Porygon Z (#20) and Jolteon (#24) on the DO@20 list, but not on Pokebattler's list

More Damage!

Lets take a look at list of top DO@5 counters for Ho-Oh. It looks like there isn't much you can do for more damage. The top 6 of DO@5 are already known. #7 thur #10 are different, but that's not useful when you're looking for the highest DPS.

  1. Tyranitar
  2. Rhyperior
  3. Omastar
  4. Golem Normal
  5. Golem Alola
  6. Lunatone
  7. Solrock
  8. Deoxys Normal
  9. Graveler Normal
  10. Kabutops

Alternate move sets

The links above only show the best move set for each Pokemon, including legacy moves. However, if you don't have the legacy move or running short of TMs, you can unselect the two checkboxes: "Include Legacy Moves" and "Only best move set for each Pokemon"
